Employers have a legal duty to ensure that employees and others are kept safe from substances that may be used or generated in the workplace.  CLP Regulations place a legal duty on manufacturers and suppliers of substances to provide Safety Data Sheets and correct signage and information on any substance they supply.  Organisations have a legal duty to provide information, instruction and training to all of their employees to ensure that they are aware of hazards and the controls in place to keep them safe in the workplace.

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 are a far-reaching set of Regulations applicable to all workplaces and which bring together numerous amendments and European Directives on the use of hazardous substances. They include every day materials such as paraffin, correcting fluid, acids, chemicals, dusts, carcinogens, biological agents and many more.
